A Strong Start to the Year at Airville State School
As we move into Week 9 of Term 1, it’s a wonderful time to reflect on what has been a positive and productive start to the year here at Airville State School.
For our families — both new and returning — this term has truly highlighted what it means to learn The Airville Way.
A School Where Every Child is Known
At Airville, one of our greatest strengths is our small, supportive environment.
Every student is known by name, understood as an individual, and supported in their learning journey. This allows our teachers to tailor learning experiences to suit each child, helping them build confidence and achieve success at their own pace.
This term, we have been excited to welcome new students and families into our school community. It has been fantastic to see how quickly they have settled in, formed friendships and become part of the Airville family.
Meaningful Learning in Every Classroom
Our students have been engaged in a wide range of learning experiences designed to build strong foundations across all key areas.
In English, students have explored rich and engaging texts such as Kensuke’s Kingdom, encouraging them to think deeply about characters, emotions and setting. Our younger students have also enjoyed storytelling experiences like Tiddalik the Frog, helping them understand important messages such as sharing and making thoughtful choices.
In Mathematics, learning has been hands-on and purposeful. From early concepts like shapes, positioning and data collection, to more advanced skills such as mapping, problem-solving and using mathematical language like quadrilaterals and axis of symmetry, our students have been building both understanding and confidence.
Our use of structured programs, including Literacy Hub, has also supported students in developing strong spelling and reading skills through explicit teaching of sounds and word patterns.
Building Confidence, Skills and Independence
At Airville, learning goes beyond academic achievement.
We focus on developing confident, capable learners who can think independently, communicate clearly and work well with others.
Our mixed year-level environment provides opportunities for students to learn from one another, take on leadership roles and build strong peer relationships.
A Balanced School Experience
We understand that children learn best when they feel happy, supported and engaged.
That’s why our school day includes opportunities for both focused learning and important downtime. Our students enjoy moments like Golden Time, where they can reset, socialise and recharge between lessons.
We’ve also enjoyed a number of fun and engaging experiences this term — from creative classroom activities to outdoor play and our weekly swimming lessons, which have helped students build confidence and important water safety skills.
Strong Connections with Families
We value the strong partnerships we have with our families and community.
Open communication, a welcoming environment and shared goals for each child’s success are all part of The Airville Way.
Finishing the Term Strong
As we approach the final weeks of Term 1, we are incredibly proud of the progress our students have made — not just academically, but in their confidence, resilience and willingness to give things a go.
Airville continues to be a place where students feel safe, supported and inspired to learn every day.
We look forward to finishing the term on a high and continuing this positive momentum into Term 2.
