It was a fresh Burdekin morning as our students gathered at school, buzzing with excitement for the big day ahead. Around 8:45am, we boarded the bus and set off on our adventure to Clare State School, ready to give our all at this year’s Athletics Carnival—and what a day it turned out to be!
As soon as we arrived, the cheering began—and it didn’t stop! Our Prep to Year 3 students kicked things off with their sprint races, racing down the track with energy and determination. After their sprints, they jumped straight into fun games and activity rotations, where laughter, teamwork, and joy filled the school grounds. From ball games to obstacle courses, our youngest athletes truly lived the Airville Way—being positive, confident, respectful, and proud.
Our Year 4 to Year 6 students followed with their sprints, then rotated through a full program of field events including high jump, long jump, shot put, and the challenging 200m sprint. With grit, grace, and plenty of encouragement for one another, they gave every event their best effort.
As the day drew to a close, everyone gathered to watch the grand finale—our senior students tackling the 800m race. With the whole school cheering them on, their determination was inspiring, and their perseverance was something to be proud of.
Between events, we enjoyed a delicious tuckshop lunch, kindly provided by Giru State School—thank you for keeping our athletes fuelled and happy!
The day ended with proud ribbon presentations, beaming smiles, and the exciting announcement that four of our senior students have qualified for the District Athletics Carnival, to be held on Friday 8 August at Home Hill High School. We’ll be cheering them on all the way!
From the fresh start to the final race, our students shone brightly—living the Airville Way every step of the way. We are incredibly proud of their effort, spirit, and sportsmanship.
What a day. What a team. What an adventure!
