Airville State School, 920 Old Clare Road, is a small, rural primary school located within the Burdekin District, 10 km up-river from the nearest town of Ayr. It is also within close proximity to the towns of Home Hill and Brandon. Airville State School caters for children from the preparatory year through to year 7.
Airville State School was opened on 2nd September, 1890. Airville’s school population has fluctuated over the years with it reaching approximately 130 children in the mid to late 1990s. There are currently 34 children at the school. The school is surrounded by cane fields. It is the only community facility within the Airville area.
Children engage with learning experiences in two class groupings. Group one consists of children from the preparatory year through to year 2. Group two is made up of children from year 3 to year 7. There are currently children in all year levels. From 2015 onwards year 6 will be the last year for students to attend a primary school before they transition to junior secondary schooling at their local high school for the continuation of their schooling from year 7 to year 12.
