Making a Splash in the Burdekin!

One of the highlights of Term 4 is just around the corner — our Small Schools Swimming Carnival!
Each year, Airville State School joins with our fellow small schools across the Burdekin for a day of fun, teamwork, and friendly competition at the Ayr Pool.

This exciting event brings together students from all our wonderful small schools, giving everyone — big and small — the chance to participate, cheer, and celebrate the spirit of our tight-knit school community.

Our Prep to Year 3 students will start the day with a splash at a series of activity stations, designed by teachers to make water play both safe and exciting. These stations are all about fun, teamwork, and meeting students from other schools.

Meanwhile, our Year 4–6 students will take to the pool to test their speed, strength, and endurance in the 100m and 50m races for breaststroke, backstroke, and freestyle. Each event is a chance for our swimmers to challenge themselves and show just how much they’ve improved through their weekly lessons.

Lunch and a little extra fun

After a morning of splashing and cheering, everyone will enjoy a delicious lunch provided by Kalamia State School’s P&C, generously paid for by Airville State School. A huge thank you to Kalamia for helping us keep everyone fuelled and ready for the afternoon’s fun!

When our older swimmers finish their laps, the excitement continues — our younger students will have the chance to hop in the pool for a few shorter novelty races to finish the day on a high note. There’s always plenty of laughter, teamwork, and encouragement as the students cheer each other on from the sidelines.

Families welcome!

We love seeing our parents, grandparents, and friends in the crowd — your cheers make all the difference!
So pop Friday, 7th November in your diary, grab your hat and water bottle, and come along to the Ayr Pool to support our amazing swimmers.

It’s sure to be a wonderful day celebrating not just swimming skills, but also sportsmanship, friendship, and the spirit of our small schools working together.

We can’t wait to see everyone poolside!
